RECENT EVENTS
A month ago, Natasha went out with friends, including Detective Inspector Marilyn Randall of
Surrey Police. After a few drinks, Marilyn told them how pleased she was with their investigations
into local drug trafficking. Unprofessionally, she explained that they suspected that a key player lived
in Moleford and that they’d made a break-through when they traced a suspect car to a local car
dealership.
Natasha put two and two together and decided that the prime suspect was probably George, who
worked in a local car dealership and in her role as an investigative journalist she couldn’t help herself
from wanting to tell everybody. Foolishly, she writes a short comment on the ‘I Live in Moleford’
Facebook page.
Evidence Item 4 – Facebook comment about Police suspicions – May 2026
This spooks Daniel, who starts to get worried about keeping his drug supply at home. He decides to
bury the drugs in the churchyard. The next day, whilst Phyllis is working on her flower beds, she
notices the disturbed earth where Daniel had buried his drugs and digs them up. She looks in the
package and finds a mobile phone and a list of customers she knows in the village, including Belinda,
but has no idea what is in the package itself. She assumes that the owner can be contacted on the
phone and calls the last called number, pleased with herself when she guesses the access code ‘1234’.
George answers and asks who is calling, without saying who he is. Phyllis says that she’d found a
package and then the phone battery dies. She is not sure what to do and takes the package to the
Reverend Dawkins to ask his advice. He is shocked by the list of customers and realises that the
package contains drugs. It seems to confirm his suspicions about Belinda and he is worried that his
whole world and all that he believed in is about to collapse, to say nothing of the implications for the
villagers on the customer list. To stop Phyllis going directly to the police and to give himself time, he
tells Phyllis that he will deal with it and takes the drugs from her.
The Reverend Dawkins then confronts Belinda, who explains that the drugs were probably part of
George’s drug supply chain. Belinda is concerned that the drugs will be found in their home and she
will be a prime suspect, because of her criminal record. The Reverend Dawkins is enraged and goes
on about the terrible impact that sinners like George have on communities and that God should strike
him dead. He decides to hide the package, in order to safeguard the villagers and prevent the
damnation it would bring down on his ministry.
Daniel goes back to the churchyard to get his drugs stash and finds it gone and soon after, he receives
a call from George, who threatens him with serious consequences if he doesn’t get the money for the
drugs. Daniel goes home to Phyllis who tells him that she had found a package and made the phone
call and that after she got home she was called and told to give the package to Daniel or she would
seriously regret it but she’d already given it to the Reverend Dawkins. Daniel decides to tell Phyllis
what was in the package, so that she can realise how serious it is. He tells her George is the local Mr
Big behind all this and that she should avoid going near him because he could do her serious harm.
She is livid and wants to do whatever she can to keep both Daniel and herself safe.
Daniel decides to break into the vicarage to get the drugs back. When he gets into the vicarage he
cannot find the drugs and Belinda discovers Daniel in the house. He explains his predicament and
she decides to help, since it would get the drugs away from church property. Belinda expects her
husband has put them in the locked cupboard where he keeps ‘confiscations’, in the vestry of the
church. Daniel breaks into the cupboard with Belinda. He does not find the drugs but sees a whole
set of things, confiscated from choir-boys, including knives, a catapult and a crossbow and bolts.
The next day Reverend Dawkins then reports the break-in to the police but does not mention the
drugs stash.

Belinda then goes searching round the vicarage for the stash and her husband finds her searching his
study and she has to tell him what she knows. She then sent an email to Daniel.

The Reverend Dawkins then gets very nervous and takes the drugs to the police, after removing the
list of customers. The police take Belinda in for questioning but let her go without being arrested.
When Natasha hears from Marilyn (the detective) about the Reverend Dawkins handing over the
drug stash, she jumps at the chance to make it into an article explaining that it could not be a
coincidence that there was a break-in at the vicarage and drugs found in the churchyard and refers to
her previous reported suspicions about Mr Big, who she is now convinced is George.

Natasha Rider was born and brought up in Moleford and now works part-time as a librarian. She has
always wanted to be a professional investigative journalist and spends a lot of time on social media
and has a modest following on her “I Live in Moleford” web-site and Facebook pages. She is always
on the look-out for local under-cover stories aided by her friend from school, Marilyn Randall, who
has worked her way up to Chief Inspector in Surrey Police and supplies her with snippets of
information about ongoing investigations. This has meant that she has recently been told that the
police are close to identifying the local drugs boss and that one of the suspects is George Brandreth.
Rather foolishly she hints at this on “I Live in Moleford” and George is not pleased. A school friend,
Billy Johnson, has just started Jingle Radio and Natasha is trying to persuade him to let her do
investigative documentaries. She is currently earning his trust by doing reports on boring local events,
like the Charity Walk.
George is the current local drugs boss. He is relatively new to the scene having taken over from, Bertram B Chandler, who used to supply Belinda. Chandler has not been seen since and George is acutely aware that he has to play by the rules of the drug world if he wants to succeed and not ‘disappear’ like Bertram B. George’s ‘day
job’ is a Car Salesperson in a local car dealership.
Phyllis Forsyth, is a single lady, was born in Moleford Manor, which she inherited from her father
in 2018, with capital and income to match. Her father was a big-game hunter and his trophies are on
the walls of the manor, as well as some of the weapons he used. Phyllis occasionally joined her father
on safaris and some of her ‘trophies’ also adorn the walls. She considers Moleford to be the next best
place to heaven and is keen to support her neighbours as best she can. She is committed to supporting
the church and looks after the displays of flowers and the flower-beds in the churchyard. She felt
sorry for Daniel when he arrived in the village and, as a good Christian soul, offered him a rent-free
room in Moleford Manor. She then embarked on a career of trying to make something of him, not
knowing that he was a drug dealer.
Belinda Dawkins née Baxter came from a broken home. Her father left when she was three, after
which her mother relied on a series of unreliable men. There was hardly enough food and Belinda
took on jobs, lying about her age, just to keep their heads above water. She found that delivering
drugs paid well and soon became an addict. Being intelligent she realised she needed a cover story
and went to work at Macdonalds in 2017, where she met Daniel Carter. Unfortunately, on two
occasions she was stopped in the street and found to have drugs in her possession. Luckily the
volumes were small and she got a caution the first time and a short Community Service sentence the
second time.
Evidence Item 1 – Belinda sentenced for possession of drugs – 2019
She decided that Daniel was not a good long term bet and in 2023 decided to try and sort out her life
by seeking a financially-secure man to marry. She managed to drastically reduce her need for drugs,
moved to Surrey and started going to St Barnabus Church, in Moleford, where she met, charmed and
married, the vicar, John Dawkins in 2024. At the same time, she kept the affair with Daniel going,
because he was more fun and he was secretly supplying her with drugs. Not surprisingly her marriage
to the Reverend Dawkins is not going well.
Daniel Carter was brought up in a children’s home. He left at eighteen and had a lot of part-time
work, over a number of years. He started his on-going affair with Belinda Baxter when he was
working in MacDonalds. She introduced him to drugs. He was keen on five-a-side football and
swimming and regularly went to Maidstone Leisure Centre. Belinda occasionally joined him and in
2018 they won a doubles table-tennis competition.

In 2024, partly to keep him close, Belinda got him a job as a grave-digger in Moleford at St Barnabus
and also set him up with George as a drug supplier, guaranteeing her supply of drugs without being
involved in the supply chain itself.
Reverend John Dawkins is not a man of the world. Devoted to the village and his small congregation. He was brought up in nearby Weyford by his father, the vicar of St Donald’s and an indulgent mother. He was taught at
home and became a fervent Christian with no respect for atheists and sinners. Whilst training for the
priesthood at St Mellitus College in London, he wrote an Old Testament inspired piece for the Church
Times.
Evidence Item 3 – Rev. Dawkins Church Time article – 5 Mar 2010
He was ordained in 2012. He had little exposure to the opposite sex before he met Belinda in 2023,
who ran rings round him, pretending to admire his extreme religious beliefs, and drip-feeding him
sexual experience until he was hooked. He had no proper understanding of her. It didn’t occur to him
to ask about her history, so he had no idea that he had married a drug addict with a lover and a criminal
record. However, given the way she behaved once married he began to suspect something was amiss
but he preferred to keep his head in the sand not wanting believe that he had married the sort of person
he abhorred who might lose him the admiration of his parishioners and even question his role as a
priest.
